Franklin Academy is a coeducational boarding school in East Haddam, Connecticut, United States, serving students in grades 912 that have an auditory learning style preference. The school's primary mission is serving children with nonverbal learning disability (NLD) and Asperger's Syndrome.

History

The headmaster of Franklin Academy is Fred Weissbach. The school officially opened in September 2003 with approximately 35 students. In its second year, enrollment grew to approximately 55 students. In the third year of operation there were about 75 students. In its fourth year it had approximately 80 students. The academy is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Buildings

There are six dorms on campus: a main dormitory that houses most students, and five smaller satellite dorms for older students. There is a science center and a main school building. The admissions building is located at the front of campus. The Dining Hall is next to the athletic field, under it is the library. The community center, previously the library, is attached to the medical center. There is also a small gym with a workout room. A new school building, the humanities building, was completed in November 2011.

Academics

As of 2007, the school's graduates have been accepted into over sixty different colleges.
